Sometimes your computer runs into problems. Maybe the internet drops frequently, or your computer is starting to run slower than it used to, maybe your applications are freezing, or maybe you're getting the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death" (otherwise known as a BSOD).


This guide will walk you though 4 basic steps you can take that may fix general computer issues.



  1. Update your computer using Dell Command | Update
    • Start by pressing the Windows Start Button...


    • Now type in Dell Command Update. You should then be able to click on the Dell Command | Update icon...


    • After clicking on the Dell Command | Update icon, it will open the Dell Command | Update application. Now click on the blue Check button...


    • Dell Command | Update will check to see if there are any updates available for your computer. If it finds any, it will show the updates to you and you can click on the blue Install button...



    • Once it's done updating, click on the blue Restart button. If that button isn't there, then click on the blue Close button...


  2. Update your computer using Windows Update
    • Start by clicking on the Windows Start Button...


    • Now type in Updates. Then click on Check for updates (If that option isn't there, click on "Windows Update settings" instead)...


    • The Windows Update settings window will open. Now click on the blue Check for updates button...


    • If it finds and new updates, it will show you and it will start updating automatically. If you're prompted to reboot your computer, please do so and follow these steps again to check for more updates before going to the next step.


  3. Update your computer using the Windows Store app...
    • Open the Windows Store app by clicking the store icon in the task bar...
    • If this icon isn't in your task bar, try searching for it by clicking on the Windows Start Button and typing in "store"...



    • If you still don't see the Windows Store app, please submit an IT Helpdesk ticket.

    • After clicking on the Windows Store icon, the Windows Store app will open. Click on the Library button on the lower left side of the Windows Store app...


    • On this new page, you can search for updates by clicking on the blue Get updates button...


    • The button will then show a spinning circle to let you know that it's checking for updates. If it finds any updates, it will show apps being updated below...


    • If there are no updates available, the button will show a checkmark...


  4. REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER
    • Start by clicking on the Windows Start button...


    • Now click on the Power icon...


    • Then click on Restart...


    • Always remember to reboot your computer after running updates. Sometimes an update won't install until you reboot your computer even if you weren't asked to reboot.

    • Rebooting your computer can also be the step that ends up fixing your issue as well.
